We are already into Week 10 of the Summer Term - where does time go!  This is the last chance for members to sign up for the Foundation Dinner on the 28 July.  Last year the event was great fun - the Academy Band were excellent, as was the food and speaker.  This year Major General Peter Wall will be talking about his experiences during his tours of Iraq and Afghanistan.  It is a good opportunity to invite your family and friends and we look forward to seeing many of you on the night (Please see below to join us).  The Heritage Day was a great success and luckily the weather held out encouraging more than 9,000 visitors to attend.

Beat the Retreat at Heritage Day - 17 June

Leadership Encounter Evening - Tues 24 July

This will be our last event before the Summer Hols kick in so please do come and support The Foundation at this event. We are extremely pleased that Commander Mark Bush OBE RN will be coming to speak to us on 'The Battle of the Atlantic 1939 - 1945 - a Supreme Test of Leadership', who on retirement worked as a speech writer to the Lord Mayor of London, and would like to have a good audience for him.  Please do try to bring other friends as your guests - the more the merrier.   Please click >>here to read more about Mark.  Please click >>here to sign up.

Voice of Experience - Do the Tools do the Job? - 23 July.  Major Jon Swift RRF will be talking to the Juniors on Mon 23 July at 1600hrs in Churchill Hall.  If you would like to attend this lecture please email Jules on jules.mccoll@sandhurstfoundation.org.

EVENTS AT RMAS

Charity Polo Day - 12 July.  The RMAS Charity Polo Day will be held tomorrow, Thursday 12 July.  The first match will begin at 1400hrs - all members and their guests are welcome to attend please let Sandra know if you would like to attend by calling her on 01276 412000 or email her at sandra.ross@sandhurstfoundation.org

Foundation Dinner Night - 28 July - Last chance to book your places!! Please do come and support us

This year's Foundation Dinner Night will be held on Saturday 28 July.  Last year proved to be a great success and this year we would like to see an increase in numbers.  The four course meal will be held in the Indian Army Memorial Room.  The Academy Band will be playing during the event and a raffle will aslo be held (the after dinner speaker will be announced soon).  The dress will be black tie.  Tables seat 10 so please feel welcome to invite as many guests as you like.  Tickets are £50 each.  Tours for guests can also be arranged on the Saturday or Sunday.  All guests are welcome to attend Chapel on sunday morning - so why not make a weekend of it.  To attend the Dinner Night please click >>here.

Commandant's Rehearsal - Wednesday 8 August

All members and their guests are very welcome to attend the Comdt's Rehearsal on Wednesday 8 August.  All guests must be seated by 1045hrs and the parade finishes about 1230hrs.  Guests are welcome to bring picnics to have by the lakeside after the Parade.  If you would like to attend please email Sandra Ross on sandra.ross@sandhurstfoundation.org.  Tickets will then be sent to you in the post.

Richard Holmes Lecture - Tues 30 October.  The Forces Pension Scheme (FPS) and the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) have joined together to organise a lecture at RMAS by Richard Holmes.  Richard's talk will be on Winston Churchill.   The reception will begin at 1915 (with wine and canapes) and the event will end approx 2115.  Tickets cost £18.  If you would like to attend please click >>here to see more details and to sign up.  Guests are welcome to attend to.

Sandhurst Foundation Membership, Subscriptions and Communications Sub Committee - will be meeting on Tuesday 24 July.  Their role is to:

  • Advise the Sandhurst Foundation Management Board(SFMB) on strategies to improve membership numbers
  • Advise the SFMB on levels of subscriptions for members and surrounding issues in connection with the payment/receipt of subscriptions
  • Advise the SFMB on methods by which communication links should be established with members and potential members; this may involve any medium which is felt appropriate and achieves effective communications.

Intake 7 Annual Lunch Reunion - Thursday 2 August.  Intake 7 are now going to hold a less formal buffet type lunch every year.  This year's lunch has been provisionally booked at the Army and Navy Club for approx £30 per head not including drinks.  If you would like to attend, or know of anyone who might, please contact John Hooper on JJHHDALATI@aol.com.  He is also very happy to know if you would like to change the location, date, style etc.

Photo Hunt - Simon Nkoy Nyama, Rhine Company Intake 52, who passed out in June 1973 is very keen to find any photographs of his time at the Academy.  Unfortunatley all his photos were looted from his house during the troubles in the Congo and his children are very keen to see some pictures.  If anyone should have any material please could you contact Sandra Ross on 01276 412838 or email her on sandra.ross@sandhurstfoundation.org
