BUILD PROGRESS

The 15th Station of the Cross

The new Station of the Cross was painted by Luke Elwes, a great-nephew of Col Guy Elwes who designed the original Chapel.

The Sacred Heart Chapel

The former Sacristy is now a Chapel dedicated to the Sacred Heart.

September 2004 - The Interior

Work on the new interior continues apace and the new floor has been laid. The three windows that were previously hidden behind the old sanctuary are now uncovered and will be replaced with new stained glass.

June 2004 - The Building Work Begins

The scaffolding is up outside the chapel as work on the new exterior begins.

March 2004 - A Work In Progress

The old sanctuary is being ripped out to make way for the new seating layout and exposing three arched windows. These windows will be fitted with new stained glass, to complement the designs already in place.

March 2004 - Current Status

Work has begun on stripping out the interior of the Chapel, ready for the builders to start work in April. The pews and altar have gone and since this picture was taken, the Stations of the Cross have been taken down and put into storage to await their new home.

February 2004 - Architect's Plan

This plan outlines the changes, both interior and exterior, that will be made to the Chapel.

February 2004 - The New Interior

This computer-generated image gives an impression of how the interior will look. The altar will be in the middle of the Chapel, with tiered seating on three sides.

February 2004 - The New Staircase

This picture shows how the new entrance to the Chapel will look. The staircase echoes the architectural style of Old College, whilst the glass porch lends a contemporary feel.
